WordPress Workshops

Ever thought of running your own blog but don’t quite know how to do it? Do you have a static website and would like to be able to update it easily, or add a news/blog section to it? Or have you already got your own Wordpress site and not quite sure what to do next? We can help and it won’t cost you the Earth either. That’s our promise. WordPress is a fully fledged blogging platform but also has the ability to be used as a powerful Content Management System (CMS). You can use it to power a news/blog section, a photo gallery, a standard website or even an eCommerce website. The options with it are endless!
We’re happy to announce that we are hoping to start holding WordPress workshops for varying abilities and knowledge levels. Our workshops will consist of a 2 hour workshop from 10am until 12pm, followed by a hot lunch, dessert and tea/coffee (all included in the price), for just £60 per person. We may also introduce evening workshops for people who cannot make the morning sessions, so please let us know if you would prefer this.
The Workshop Levels
Level 1 : For complete beginners, explaining the basics of WordPress which will include explaining the dashboard, the difference between posts and pages, writing posts/pages, creating categories, adding links, basic settings, adding standard widgets and adding a theme.
Level 2 : Intermediate Part I, including advanced settings on posts and pages, using page templates, using the media uploader/library and modifying images, adding photo galleries, adding plugins and explaining some of the more popular ones, backing up and upgrading.
Level 3 : Intermediate Part II, including custom fields for posts/pages and editing theme files to use them, creating (additional) dynamic sidebars. Explaining the template hierarchy, creating page templates, adding a lightbox for photos/external content. (Please note, an understanding of HTML is required and a basic understanding of PHP would be useful too).
Level 4 : Advanced, the possibilities are endless! This would cover explaining themes, template tags, case studies and more. Alternatively we may run a specific WordPress Photoblog workshop if there are enough people who want one. Requests for what to cover can also be taken (however, cannot be guaranteed to be covered during the workshop).
